Jack's Wedding: A Fairy-tale Celebration

His voice filled with anticipation and excitement, Jack made a call to his mother. For five long years, he and his beloved, Sudha, had been dreaming of their perfect wedding. Finally, the day was on the horizon.

"Mum, can you believe it? They finally agreed to the wedding. Oh my god, I'm so excited!" Jack exclaimed, his voice bursting with joy as he spoke to his mother. "Sudha said it's all going to happen in a month's time because her grandfather's pretty serious, and they want to have the wedding done. Can you believe it? Finally, after five years!"

Jack's mother shared in his excitement. "An Indian wedding with a beautiful bride," she mused, already imagining the vibrant celebrations to come. "So, when is it going to be?"

"In a month," Jack replied. "But what about all the clothes? Jack’s mother exclaimed. “We haven't got anything ready yet”. Jack replied. What’s worse we only have ten days over there. I have to start looking for tickets. Sudha said she's going to do the same, but both of us are so busy with work and projects."

"I can help with that, son," his mother offered. "Do you know there are five types of dresses you have to wear for the wedding, and that's not counting the accessories? That's how Indian weddings are."

"Oh my god, whatever it is," Jack sighed. "I want to have a Western wedding too."

"Sure, let me look at everything for you," his mother reassured him. She soon found a store that had everything they needed. "I found a place where you can get everything an Indian groom needs and more and matching headgear as well. With loads of other casual ethnic wear for you wear before the wedding. You better select the one you like."

Sudha had already decided on her dress, so it was time for Jack to pick his outfit to match hers. "There are ceremonies’ called Sangeet, mehendi and Haldi," Jack's mother continued. "Do you know what the Haldi ceremony is? It's where you wear everything yellow."

"Yellow? Do you think I'm going to wear that ?" Jack groaned.

"Yes, you have to. That's the custom," she insisted.

"Okay, mom, please pick something cheap so I can just throw it away afterward," Jack requested. "And while you're at it, look for Sudha's outfits too. A couple of casual ethnic wear and don't forget the  tuxedos because I want to wear two of those too for the cocktail party and the reception."

"Jack, my friends are coming too," Jack's mother said. "One is Chinese, and they want to attend the wedding but in their traditional style. They want to buy Indian fabrics and make Chinese dresses out of them."

Jack's mother was determined to find everything they needed. She found Chinese retro style tops and dresses, as well as lovely western tops she even looked at some beautiful Cashmere sweaters and stoles, juttis and nice cotton jackets for them to bring back. And she found them all at a single store.

"Do you think we can get all this ready in one month?" Jack asked, a bit worried.

"Yes, we can," his mother assured him. "They do custom-made outfits, so you just have to give them your measurements, and they will stitch everything for you. We can probably get something for Sudha too."

"Oh, wonderful, mom. You're just great. See you soon. Love, Jack."

And so, with love, excitement, and a lot of preparation, Jack and Sudha's fairy-tale wedding was set to become a reality, blending the best of both Indian and Western traditions in a celebration that would be remembered forever.
